Band workshop session today assessment 1 for Easter gig

Today,We had to perform one of our songs using the new equipment especially the Minibrute analog synthesiser and vocal transformer. We performed our original song today and it was neat the candil law,Something like that.I could play the notes very well on the  keyboard. Hence the performance went very well, for our Easter gig,I will perform much more better with my band including the cover which is a song called pink matter.Hnce,I am doing well.I practice a lot from time to time.

http://ollysellwood.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/band-workshop-funky-junk-run-through-gig.html

This is the run through gig which we had yesterday as part of the 1st assessment for the Easter gig which we have time till March 14th. Band no 1.

Rehearsal diary 9 / Peri lessons today.

My track,Music producer work 8

If you are using a reverb/reverberation in your track, especially the for the verses and choruses of the vocals especially,There is an extra sound added towards the track. It is basically trying to find the intensity of modulation of the actual or guided track,Like I was listening to my guided track which is muguel Adorn. The producer is Miguel. He uses a drum machine and for thew backing vocals or the backing track itself has a water sound,Beeping/whistling sound. Vocals are stretched from time time.In some of the phrases in my track,I used the reverberator by increasing and decreasing all the sounds,Basically everything which is in the reverberator,And if you increase the sound, especially the dryness or wetness of it,The sound starts getting louder. There is a little bit of synth,But mostly the drum machine is used in my backing track.

Individual presentation

In this course what I can say is that I had been doing very well in music.Whatever  we had been practicing in the songwriting and band workshop sessions,I always went on to the Internet and figured out the chords, but what we had actually performed in our classes was actually different to what I had done individually at home,But as I Started practicing with the band, I could understand what I was doing with the band members, and whatever I am learning with the band members in songwriting and band workshop sessions,I always cooperated and practiced with them and practiced at home individually to do better in the actual performances and we actually performed well in the Induction and winter gigs. I have been attending all my classes regularly and on time which is why my attendance and punctuality are up to a 100 percent and in case if I am about to miss any lesson,I would always inform my teacher who is taking the lesson.

For composition,I enjoyed doing remix and rearranging and electronic production for the first term and now in the second term,I am working as a music producer.

From the beginning of the year,I was very anxious and worried as to whatever I am doing in Logic is good or bad,Later on, I realised that actually I can make my own track or work on logic however I wanted to work and get better and better.I also had been looking at my teachers blogs as to whatever  I had been learning and doing in each and every lesson and also for my self study.

I liked doing music theory and had been getting good marks in my theory tests like after every vacation,When I was given a test as to what we had been learning in our previous lessons. In Composition and sequencing classes,I have started enjoying and got used to work on my tracks in Logic. What I would like to do for my final major project is that I would want to work as a music producer as it is and referring back to the first term,I would like to do remix and rearranging. I had also been doing well in keyboard technical excercises in theory classes and practicing technical targets at home and uploading videos of it on my blog.My attendance and punctuality are 100 percent.I didn't miss any lesson at all during these two terms and unless there was an emergency, I would always inform my teachers.I also liked using the new equipment with my band like the vocal transformer and the Mini brute keyboard.I learnt how to play the bass sounds and other ones as well, basically how to tune it.The instrumental peri lessons gave me the basic Idea of   how I am going to perform in band workshop and songwriting sessions even though it was a little different and how to become better as a pianists so well. So,I had been attending these sessions as well.I enjoyd these classes. I always kept my work updated during this course,My blog work, theory work etc. I also liked joining music certificate lessons as I am good in singing and people appreciate it.Infact,I sang very well in yesterday's recital which was part of my first assessment. The examples of first two terms, help me in my argument are when I did remix and rearranging as part of my composition and creating anything which I want to do in Logic which is related to what I am being taught in Composing and sequencing classes. Also when doing my rehearsal diary by practicing technical targets also performing in the induction and winter gigs.

Listening analysis/ of music performance or production in the last 5 years

In general, the musical features approach is found in many different schools and locations, both nationally and internationally and so there is evidence that it basic principles are replicable and also adaptable. At Morpeth ,the programme is not genre specific and works across all age phrases,as well as with technology.Harrogate regards the approach as good music teaching and has first-hand evidence of the positive impact of the approach, including the encouragement of teachers to act as musicians with their pupils," Music teachers shouldn't be afraid to sing or play for students".Steyning reports that the approaches with older pupils are replicable in other settings, suggesting that,in more challenging schools,it could be simpler to set the different types of vocational and academic qualifications as separate options.

This link gives you the 10 most irritating sounds in music, errors in music performances.Performers play rock music which they think that they are having fun and making the audience have fun when it is actually a total commotion and not sounding good.
The last five years:-

This modern musical ingeniously chronicles the five-year life of a marriage, from meeting to break-up and from break -up to meeting.

Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk winner,The last five years, has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazines ten best shows of 2001.A testament to the show's longevity, and spurred by the show's regional popularity,The Last Five years enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013.A film adaptation was released in 2014,starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically;the two characters only meet once,at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Featuring a two-person cast, The last five years is a great opportunity for actors with both range and stamina. This intimate musical is perfect for small theatre companies and black box venues.

TIFF:Anna Kendrick on Singing Her Way Through 'The Last 5 Years':-

Anna Kendrick is in Toronto promoting a number of movies( she's a busy gal),but one is especially
close to her heart. In said film, the musical "The Last 5 Years", Kendrick gives one of her most
appealing performance as Cathy,an aspiring actress trying to hit big in New York. The film-directed by Richard LaGravenese and based on the hit off-Broadway musical-traces her characters
relationship to Jamie(Jeremy Jordan),an up-and-coming novelist, over the course of five tumulus
years." The Last 5 years,"which RADiUS-TWC opens next Valentines Day,isn't the only musical the actress has completed this year.

UK Music has publishing Measuring Music 2015-an annual economic study that reveals the true scale of the U.K. music's vast contribution to the UK economy.2014 proved to be a buoyant year for music with increased growth across the sector contributing to a staggering £4.1billion overall contribution to the UKs economy.

The art of noise:how music recording has changed over decades:-

Technology provides crystal clear recordings of all the music in the world,at little or no cost. But,as a
historical audio installation opens at the science Musuem, composer Christopher Fox asks why we won't let go of our musical past.

History of sound recording:-

Experiments in capturing sound on a recording medium for preservation and reproduction began in earnest during the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s. Many pioneering attempts to record and reproduce sound were made during the latter half of the 19th century-notably Scott's Phonautograph of 1857 - and these efforts culminated in the invention of the phonograph, patented by Thomas Edison in 1877.

The history of sound recording- which has progressed in waves, driven by the invention and commercial introduction of new technologies-can be roughly divided into four main periods:-

the " Acoustic". era,1877 to 1925

the "Electrical" era, 1877 to 1925(including sound on film)

the "Magnetic" era,1945 to 1975

the " Digital" Era,1975 to the present day.

Effect of Errors and Delays in Inventory Reporting on Production System Performance:-

Abstract:-

A discrete linear control has been used by the authors to examine the performance of multi-level,multi-product production control systems operating in an environment where system errors are expected. The basic method was reported in and it's use to examine system structures and system implementation sequences was discussed in (2). Production control systems operate in an uncertain
environment.Besides the commonly considered uncertainties in demand, yield, quality and delivery times, errors frequently exist in basic data such as bills of materials and occur in stock records as a result of incorrect or late transaction recording. This paper presents the basic discrete linear control representation of MRP and ROC systems, shows how these representations may be modified to
include certain types of internal system error, before examining the effects of delays in stock recoding and of recording errors on the performance of the system.Performance measures include the effects on schedules, planned stock and delivery performance.

Evolution in music is the name of this video. This shows that the rhythm is changing and there is no fixed rhythm which they have because of their medley. The beat boxing doesn't sound so clear in this video.

This video is called closing Ceremony by Estelle.
In this video what I have realised that the way she is singing is the matter of feeling sad,She is sitting
near the piano while singing and in the field of sports, the athletes are crying even though they won their matches which shouldn't be the case because,It is good that you worked hard and it is the matter of feeling happy. The singer should have an appropriate standing posture while singing.

The name of this video is ( Shaggs  my Cutie)  and the error in this performance/Production recording is that it is off tune, off beat and off time.A little bit.

Music producer work 6

Today what I did to my track today was that I was increasing the  beats per minute and adding more instruments to my track, especially the drum kit and drum machine. My teacher named Olly was having a listen to my track, the drums were out of time,So I muted the drums and also as I when I was working on my track,The vocals weren't there so I brought them back to my track from the audio file collection and stretching the instruments and audio sounds back and forth and played a new drum sound within time when recording and having a listen to my track again and again.I will keep improving and working on my track and see what I can do better for it.What I feel is that that if I increase the tempo beats per minute,The track doesn't sound so emotional like the normal tempo 60 beats per minute.Phrases are most of the time stretched.I enjoyed to much of creating the track today.

Technology in context

Technology in performance largely emerged with Fluxus and Gutai two international 1960s avant Garde movements that explored non traditional relationships with sound, dance, chance, and performance. At this time, with the growing impact of technology on human life(television was still a rather recent invention),many performance artists focused on "feedback" between the body and technology (feedback was a central concern for cybernetics the study of the man /machine interface that informed the development of personal computing and other technological devices). More recently, artists have gained inspiration from DJ techniques and sound-mixing in real time.

One of the best known works of technology-based performance art is Electric Dress (1956) by Gutai artist Atsuko Tanaka. It was a wearable sculpture consisting of electrical wires and lit up, colored light bulbs that she wore to various art openings. The work was inspired both by neon lights of a commercial advertisement and by the analogous relationship of electrical and biological circuitry.

Nam June Paik, an artist associated with Fluxus, developed TV cello (1971) for his longtime collaborator Charlotte Moorman. The piece mixed live musical performance with pre-recorded broadcast ( or live broadcast), playing with issues of simultaneity, mediation, and mass media. Three televisions made up the body of the cello, and displayed a direct feed of the performance itself,a video collage of other cellists, and an intercepted broadcast.

A new Way to play:-

Stems is a completely new way to DJ. Stems is a new format for music that redefines creative live performance. Create spontaneous edits,a cap peals, instrumentalists, and more with you tracks' musical elements available independently.

Sampling

https://plus.google.com/117879285261463035507/posts/57Y6QmaDWWC
Sampling,is when you generally take a pre existing piece and you can put them in your own music.

Innovative open source technologies:-

New technologies in development often start out as open source(freely available to all) so that they can be further developed and built upon.

Gestural music ware by Imogen Heap:-

The Gloves are a cutting experimental gestural music ware being developed today for the purpose of Imogen Heap's studio and stage work.

Using a unique gestural vocabulary, motion data-capture systems, and user interfaces to parameter functions developed by Imogen Heap and her team, artists and other users will be able to use their motion to guide computer -based digital creations. The Musical Gloves are both an instrument and a controller effect, designed to connect the user fluidly with gear performers usually use, such as Ableton-think minorityreport for musicians brought to you by the DIY/maker revolution.

How might I develop or if I am to use these type of technologies in my own music is that in my band practices to prepare for upcoming performances,I will pay attention and learn how to use and take a picture of the equipment I am using and practice it a lot and GT better and better.Similarly, when we learn new things in Life.

Examples of equipments which are used in music performances and which productionists use:-

Sampling:-

Sampling is when you take a pre existing or an old piece of music from an old album and putting into you're own track.

Music production controllers:-
Akai MPCs (originally MIDI Production Center, nowMusic Production Controller) are a popular series of electronic musical instruments originally designed by Roger Linn and produced by the Japanese company Akai from 1988 onward. Intended to function as a powerful kind of drum machine, the MPCs drew on design ideas from machines such as the Sequential Circuits Inc. Studio 440 and the Linn's own Linn 9000, combining a powerful MIDI sequencer with the ability to sample one's own sound.

Masculine is a hybrid hardware/software digital audio workstation developed by Native Instruments. Maschine consists of a controller that connects to the included sequencing software, which can be installed on any compatible computer or laptop.

The software is primarily based on drum sequencing and designed for use with the Maschine line of hardware controllers. Users assign drum kits ,instruments and sounds from the included library,to each of the controller's 16 pads, and can manipulate sounds further by applying effects and plugins.

Maschine was first released on April 1,2009, in a package that contained the original iteration of the hardware controller and Maschine software 1.0.

Abelton AG is a Berlin-based music software company that produces and distributes the production
and performance program Abelton Live and a collection of related instruments and sample libraries,as well as their own software controller Ableton Push.

Ableton was founded in 1999 by Gerhard Behles,Robert Henke of Monolake and Bernd Roggendorf.

Akai's products included reel-to-reel audiotape recorders(such as the GX series),tuners(top level AT,mid level TR and TT series).

If I create a video teaser myself, then whatever came into my mind,I would create that while making my own track in logic as I am right now working as a music producer.Hence it is interesting.

https://plus.google.com/117879285261463035507/posts/L1bdXCSvWE8
This gives a description of looping of various kinds and posted by Jeff  clienen. You make beat boxing sounds and if you did one beat boxing you do another one.You basically record some of your parts of your performing on stage in a looping system of input and output etc.then you can sing or play a musical instrument. This is talking about playing a guitar.
https://plus.google.com/117879285261463035507/posts/cmPU3Bsp6kS
This talks about that when a person is performing using a loop,How exciting it would be when he/she starts engaging the stage.

Live looping:-

Live looping is the recording and playback of a piece of music in real-time using either dedicated hardware devices, called loopers or phrase samplers,or software running on a computer with an audio interface. Musicians can loop with either laptop software or loop pedals which are sold for tabletop and floor-based use.

Notable artists:-

In a 2012-13 poll of 1000 singers,11 percent stated that they used live looping while 51 percent did not know what live looping was. Artists known for their use or advocacy of the technique include:-

Ed  Sheeran:-
vnd.youtube:Ksekm7JYzGw
By now,we've all heard his radio hits, from "The A Team" to"Photograph" and "Thinking Out Load".He basically is on fire. What you may not know that he is a great looper artist.

Don't (Capital Session)
Published on 24 July 2014. Ed Sheeran came by the Capital FM live studio to sing us a few of his new tracks. This is a stripped-back,acoustic version of his new track Don't.

I knew Top 40 artist Sheeran started out looping but I had assumed he picked up a full band once he got famous.Apparently he still tours solo with looper.Cool.

Dub FX:-

Dub FX,stylised also Dub Fx and DubFx,(real name Benjamen Stanford) is a worldwide street performer and studio recording artist from St Kilda,Melbourne,Australia. At the start of his career he was singing in a local alternative rock and rapcore band initially known as Twitch, which would later change its name 2004 they released a debut and the only album Exeunt Omnes.

Dub FX is completely independent, using only live performance, word of mouth,Internet social networking, and a number of easily accessible free.

Dub FX started off with a Boss GT-6 multi-effects pedal which he then traded up for the GT -8,and now uses a Boss GT-10B bass guitar effects pedal for nearly all the effects used over his voice.

One of the earliest mega-breakthrough YouTube looping stars, famous for his solo work, how looping with a full band.

Equipment which I use for my band.Voice transformer which is used for singers for tuning the parts into vocoder a etc for the voices to be reflected.

Minibrute keyboard which is used for playing instruments like bass etc.It is smaller and slightly different to the normal keyboard and piano. In Minibrute keyboards we can tune to wave sounds as well.

Ampere is a main extension chords which are added to the equipment.

Along with the equipment,There are other wires which are connected to the speakers so that it can be loud enough while playing and performing on stage.

Whenever,I am connecting the Minibrute Keyboard to the output where it is supposed to be,I don't have any problem and I know how to tune it and play the bass in it which I am supposed to play in our band. The vocal transformer and Minibrute keyboard are new to me for this funky junk project.

Rehearsal diary 7 and 8/About the peri lessons.

This is me playing G and F major scales with left and right hand and the contrary motion of the major scales.

This is me playing the black key notes as I am making my own music.

About my rehearsal diary

For my rehearsal diary,I am putting videos whicch I had been doing in my band workshop,Songwriting and peri lessons along with explanations for what I am doing and will be doing more when I have time within this term and course. They are in my previous posts.
What I had been focusing is playing the chords for pink matter,Bass notes for our original song on the Minibrute keyboard,Learning the following in my peri lessons,Writing a song related to breakfast,Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence,Practicing scales with left hand right hand together and separately and a contrary motion of the scales C,G and F major,Making music with the black keys of the piano/keyboard and finding endings.Whatever I had been doing in my music classes in college,I had been practicing at home to make it better. When I had played the scales were that as I play fast the  scales go wrong such as the fingering,So I keep practicing till I get it right.Hence,I am developing my skills.

These are the notes as to how I am playing the original song with my band in the above link. This shows which notes I am playing.
In this following picture,It shows how a minibrute keyboard should be set when connected in order to be able to play.

Today what happened today was that we used a Vocal transformer for practice for band workshops and songwriting sessions. It was interesting, cool and funny because of the noises we make and when we are singing. This was a new and an amazing experience. In our practice time,Marco,Kassana and I were trying various types of sounds such as vocoder etc. This is a new experience especially for singing.I tried playing the piano along with that but it doesn't sound good at all with instruments because of the Bad noise. We will be using and practicing in every Songwriting sass ions and Band workshop sessions.I enjoyed it a lot and we were told by Chloe that we will use it in our Easter gig in March. We made funny noises and singing,I also played the foot pedal drum,Piano and keyboard without the transformer. This is for the Funky junk Project for this term.I watched the video about a guy explaining as to how the vocal transformer works.I agreed with him as he was using many sounds like us in the class today.

The first link is a video and is explained very well about the transformer. The second link is a diagram and shapeof the transformer.Things which are written. The voice transformer consists of Lead,Bass,Mega phone,Radio,Scatter,Direct,Auto perches 1 and  2 ,Vocoder and Synth. We tried all of them in the class in our individual band groups. An ampere is a red coloured extension chord to connect the microphones.

In these sessions on a Monday and Tuesday,we will be doing original songs and covers. So for these sessions it is basically a band practice on these two days.A mini brute keyboard is a very small keyboard and you can tune sounds like the voice transformer. In min brute keyboards you can use wave sounds and other songs for sound check.

The Voice transformer is used as a new equipment for our band for the vocalists as to in what way they want to sing and the Minibrute keyboard is like an original keyboard and piano but very small as compared to the original keyboard. For the Original Song,Kessana and Marco and Hasna who is also the pianist are the singers,Junior is the Drummer,Reece is playing the guitar and I am playing the bass sound on the Minibrute Keyboard. The singers are using the voice transformer for their voice. In the Cover,We are performing a song named pink matter ft 3000 Andre and I am the pianist,Reece is the Guitarist,Junior is the drummer,Kessana and Marco are the singers,Hasna is playing the original, bass and we aren't using the Minibrute keyboard. How we connect the equipment is that we plug it into the extension chord and we tune it as what we like them to sound as we rehearse or perform. There other wires to be connected for listening to outputs and because of those wires,The voices of the band can come out clearly,Especially the Minibrute keyboard and voice transformer. We will be having a practice gig where we will perform for our teacher and class mates next Tuesday during band workshops on 31st January and 14th March we will perform for the final assessment which is the Easter gig.We usually connect the equipments in  between other instruments on the stage.Hence, this is a new way of performing with a new equipment.
In the picture below is a paper shown of how the stage where and when we will be performing will look like with the connection of the new equipment

Drum sampling

These are the breaks: 10 of the most sampled drum beats in music history

Drum breaks: Those small patches of space within a song where the singer shuts up, the guitarist backs off, the bass rumbles down, and the percussionist is given a moment or two to shine. Before the rise of sampling, those moments were merely considered artistic flourishes, necessary bridges, or just breathers from the mayhem swirling around the kit. Afterward, they became essential building blocks for some of the greatest music ever recorded. Below is a collection of some of the most widely sampled drum breaks, with just a few of the songs that feature them.

1. Led Zeppelin, “When The Levee Breaks” (1971)

Recorded in a centuries-old estate in Hampshire, England, this Led Zeppelin IV track obtained its opening titanic drum sound when movers set up John Bonham’s brand new Ludwig kit at the bottom of the mansion’s cavernous stairwell. The resulting natural reverberation, combined with Bonham’s own force-of-nature technique, created an effect that proved irresistible to latter-day samplers. The track has been used extensively through the years by artists like Beastie Boys on “Rhymin & Stealin,” Dr. Dre for “Lyrical Gangbang,” and “Man Next Door” by Massive Attack.

2. James Brown, “Funky Drummer” (1970)

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the bandleader who considered every instrument a drum would be responsible for giving the world one of the most widely sampled drum breaks of all time. Performed by Clyde Stubblefield, the oft-pulled moment arrives around five and a half minutes into “Funky Drummer”; Brown bookends the break with a “one-two-three-four” count in and out. The break became the base for tracks like “Fight The Power” by Public Enemy, “Mama Said Knock You Out” by LL Cool J, “Fuck Tha Police” by N.W.A., and “Run’s House” by Run-D.M.C. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson hit the nail on the head: “It’s hands down the most perfect beat you can loop—it’s very lyrical, very melodic, very rhythmic. It’s perfect. It’s magical.”

3. The Winstons, “Amen, Brother” (1969)

Quite possibly the most sampled drumbeat ever, the so-called “Amen break” was laid down by G.C. Coleman as part of the B-side to the 1971 single “Color Him Father.” While The Winstons never hit as big commercially as some of their funk and soul contemporaries, it can be argued that the band made an impact as large as Sly And The Family Stone or The Miracles through the legacy of this singular six-to-seven-second piece of music. Innumerable producers have built songs around the “Amen break” over the last 40 years. Among the more notable examples include “Straight Outta Compton” by N.W.A., “I Desire” by Salt-N-Pepa, “D’You Know What I Mean” by Oasis, and the theme song to the television show Futurama. A recent GoFundMe campaign managed to raise £24,000 for “Amen, Brother” composer Richard L. Spencer, who had never seen a cent out of the song’s use before; Coleman died broke and homeless in 2006.

4. Melvin Bliss, “Synthetic Substitution” (1973)

While you wouldn’t call “Synthetic Substitution” a throwaway necessarily, it’s a prime example of one of those songs that might have been lost to history if not for those diligent crate diggers on the search for new sounds. Released in 1973 as the B-side to the flop single “Reward,” “Synthetic Substitutions” gained new life after it was sampled by the Ultramagnetic MC’s for the song “Ego Trippin’” in 1988. Since then, the intro beat has been used by the Wu-Tang Clan on “Bring Da Ruckus,” “O.P.P.” by Naughty By Nature, and “Don’t Believe The Hype” by Public Enemy.

5. The Honey Drippers, “Impeach The President” (1973)

In the wake of foul-play revelations after the 1972 Watergate break-in, not many people were too fond of Richard Nixon. Among that growing demographic was soul singer Roy C, who recorded a whole song about his displeasure with Tricky Dick with high-school outfit The Honey Drippers. The track eventually transcended its status as an early ’70s curio thanks to producer Marley Marl, who snipped out its prominent opening break for the 1988 MC Shan song “The Bridge.” Since then, it’s been used by big names like LL Cool J, De La Soul, and Nas, who’s rapped over it several times on tracks like “I Can” and “The Message.” GZA later highlighted the break’s ubiquity on the song “As High At The Wu-Tang Get,” rapping, “You can’t flow, must be the speech impediment / You got lost off the snare off ‘Impeach The President.’”

6. James Brown, “Funky President (People It’s Bad)” (1974)

Another entry from the Godfather Of Soul, “Funky President” was recorded in September 1974 for the album Reality and is presumed to be about Gerald Ford. For the sessions, Brown called in drummer Allan Schwartzberg, formerly of the Leslie West-fronted rock band Mountain, to man the kit. He delivered right off the top with an extended boom-bap style, break-beat introduction that can be spotted in songs like “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and “Eric B. Is President” by Eric B. & Rakim.
